About Us

Neighbours Christine Brown and Ginette Heard love a good yarn, so when the idea of going into business together presented itself, they jumped at the idea.

Yarn on the Square opened its doors in the centre of Ely in February 2010. Known for its level of customer care and expertise, the range of products has grown considerably with yarns being offered from all over the world and made from many different fibres to suit all tastes and needs

“The UK’s battered economy has not stood in the way of progress for award-winning Ely firm that is in the running to win a top business accolade.”

The shop also hosts a wide variety of seasonal events, classes and workshops. Weekly Stitch and Bitch sessions happen each Wednesday evening (7-9 pm) and customers are always welcome to bring in problem pieces during the week for informal surgery sessions.

Passionate about the supporting the community and charities, both local and overseas, the shop with its knitters often provides works for exhibition and charity projects. By the end of December 2011 Yarn on the Square’s loyal tricoters had provided over 100 sweaters and vests for children attending the Marsden Highworth School in The Gambia, exhibited twice in Ely Cathedral and also at local craft shows and exhibitions.
